The city was established in 1369 by King Byinnya and experienced its Golden Age between 1385 and 1635. When the Pegu River changed its course, the city was cut off from the sea and gradually lost its importance.
Our guide will meet you around 8:00am at your hotel in Yangon then depart for Bago – an ancient capital of Myanmar, 80 km north east of Yangon – merely two hours drive away. Tour highlights in Bago includes Kyatkatwine Teaching Monastery the thousands of student monks studying Buddha’s scriptures, Shwethalyaung Pagoda – a huge reclining Buddha built during 9th century and Mon’s weaving village and then Cheroot making industry and Shwemawdaw Pagoda. Lunch at local restaurant with Bago’s Famous Soup made from twelve ingredients. You will have a chance to visit Kanbawzathadi palace – the palace site of King Bayinnaung who is the founder of Myanmar second dynasty. Your fun-filled excursion will come to a close by enjoying fresh watermelons (tropical fruits) under the tree. And it’s back to Yangon for a good rest before embarking home or towards your upcoming expeditions.
