The Huc Bridge - Hanoi City Center

Vietnam’s capital races to make up for time lost to the ravages of war and a government that as recently as the 1990s kept the outside world at bay. Its streets surge with scooters vying for right of way amid the din of constantly blaring horns, and all around layers of history reveal periods of French and Chinese occupation – offering a glimpse into the resilience of ambitious, proud Hanoians.

Day 2: Hanoi – Mai Chau (B, L, D)

Now it’s time to start your half day’s work. Return to the village late in the afternoon. Your hosts for this evening will be the White Thai minority people. Overnight in Mai Chau.

Mai Chau

Set in an idyllic valley, hemmed in by hills, the Mai Chau area is a world away from Hanoi’s hustle. The small town of Mai Chau itself is unappealing, but just outside the patchwork of rice fields rolls out, speckled by tiny Thai villages where visitors doss down for the night in traditional stilt houses and wake up to a rural soundtrack defined by gurgling irrigation streams and birdsong.

It can be said that the province contains all the scenic quintessence of whole Vietnam within its relatively small size. Not only that, Ninh Binh represents typical rural villages of Northern region with vast green paddy field, expanding mountains and poetic river that flows to the horizon. Ninh Binh’s history is also worth mentioning: the ancient capital of Vietnam in the 10th century, Ninh Binh is a venue of relics that reflect its 1000 years of history and development.

Day 5: Ninh Binh – Halong (B, L, D)
You will depart early for Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994 with nearly 3,000 rocky islets. The drive from Ninh Binh may takes around 3 hours, depending on the traffic. On arrival, you will start a 5 hour dreamy cruise to stunning scenery with thousands of Limestone Mountain and have seafood lunch while cruising through the emerald water passing by the Dog Stone, the Burning Incense islet, stop at fishing village or sit in a bamboo boat rowed by locals. You will then continue to visit Amazing Cave. At first, after few steps into the cave you might think that the cave seems like a narrow and minuscule one, but with just few more steps into the cave, it becomes bigger and bigger. You could not imagine how a tiny path could lead to such a giant, airy, and spectacular cave. For those who have an imaginative mind, the inner space of the cave can be seen as a large theater, a theater that was made by Mother Nature. The ceiling is decorated with stalactites like colorful chandeliers and the floor with plenty of rocks in diverse shapes of elephant, horse to tree, leaves, and flowers. The further tourists go into the cave, the more interesting shaped rocks appear. Some people say that the cave can also be called Cave of Unfathomable Depth. Embark on your boat afterwards and spend your time relaxing on the sundeck. The boat will head back to the Halong City in the late afternoon, where you will have you dinner and overnight stay. Rest of the night is free for shopping or walking along the beach.
